On a cool October morning here in Calgary I thought I would sit down and just spit out a few of the things that I am thinking about with weight loss for this time of year and get it out as a bit of a help to all of us.
I think of this time of year between the middle of October and New years day as the most dangerous part of the year for a diet. It is very easy right now to just take a few months off and let things go as it is really hard to be the one that can not eat all of the treats in the office and have to exercise every day. We have Thanksgiving (in the US, Canada's was last weekend) coming up and then Christmas. Here are just a few of my ideas to help you through this time.
First get up and exercise in the morning. The fall and winter are tough for exercise as there are shorter days and our energy tends to be bad. I challenge you to get up early just for two days and exercise before you do anything else. You will be working out in the dark and it may seem a little crazy but you will feel great for the rest of the day and have a good focus to make good decisions always.
Second, make up treats that you can have around the house AND at work. I am a consummate snacker. I snack all day to the point where I think I am more farm animal than person but I try to make sure that most of my snacks are fruits and vegetables and I drink lots of water with them. If you go through the archives of this blog you will also find lots of low point treats that are good for any diet and you can share them with friends and coworkers and hopefully this will help them adopt a more healthy attitude to eating as well.
Lastly, keep your motivation up. It is sometimes hard to look at a goal that is six months or a year away so make sure that lots of your goals are very close, dropping a dress size, getting an extra bit of food in because you are managing your points better, and maybe look at the next 10 pounds instead of the last 10 that are a year away. To help you with this I have a lot of success stories on this blog that you can look at and I hope you will go back and take a look at what has worked for others, think of what they would say to keep you on track. Take others comments about how well you are doing to heart and remember that what you are doing now will help you thoughout your life and in lots of ways.
As you can see, as tough as this part of the year is to keep your Weight Watchers on track, there are just a few things that can make a big difference. Try today to help others and it will come back to help you.
