Turning Failure into Success

We have all experienced the feeling of failure when something we have attempted has not gone according to plan, and we are all familiar with that sickening feeling of defeat and despair- but it is possible to turn that failure into success.

We need to accept that failure will always be a part of our life, and the only way to avoid it would be to stop trying to achieve anything.

We first experience failure as a child- when we try to walk, we fall and stumble, but instead of feeling we have failed and we may as well stop trying to walk, we get back up and keep trying until we eventually master it. The key to changing failure into success is to completely change how we view failure.

Look At Failure Objectively

Many people think that if they have failed at something, for example a business or a relationship, then this means that they cannot run a business or ever have a relationship. The key is to see each failure as a stepping stone to eventual success. Every time we fail, we learn how not to do something so we can choose to do it differently next time.

Failures are simply stepping stones to success

The person who failed at starting a business can take the lessons learnt and choose to run his next business differently with a greater chance of success, and the person who has failed in a relationship can choose to change aspects of their behavior to ensure that their next relationship works a lot better.

  • A lot of successful businessmen and entrepreneurs have a history of failed business, even bankruptcy, and have learnt from these to create bigger and more profitable ventures.
  • Most successful authors have had many rejections before finding a publisher willing to accept their work.
  • Some of the best known actors on our television screens have had periods when they have not been able to find work or have missed out on a part they auditioned for.

When we fail at something we need to stop feeling as though we have failed as a person– we just tried something which didn’t work.

Failure should not be taken personally. It is simply an event, not who we are.

We need to see failure as a requirement for moving towards our goals, and even learn to be thankful for our failures- we can learn such a lot from them. When you fail at something, take the time to write down why it failed, and work out what you could have done differently to prevent that failure.

Use Failure as Stepping Stones to Success

Failure into Success

Failure into Success

Use logic rather than emotion, and take full responsibility for the actions you took which resulted in the failure. Now you have a plan to avoid the failure when you try again in the future.

If you find that you are having difficulty getting over the failure, think of it as a stepping stone on the route to your eventual success, and remind yourself of your overall goal.

Take some time out and give yourself a little reward- we are not used to rewarding ourselves for failing, but it is time we started to celebrate our failures and the lessons we learn from them.

Don’t let the failure have a negative impact on your emotions and stop you from moving forwards towards success. If your current strategy isn’t working, don’t be afraid to stop what you are doing, reconsider and plan a different approach, even if a lot of time or money has already been invested.

Turn Failure into Success

Above all, remember that the person who never fails is the person who never tries or achieves anything. You will fail sometimes in pursuit of your goals, but it’s the lessons you learn from each failure that will help you to eventually succeed, and you will grow and develop as a person as a result.

Sometimes a failure can even open doors to even greater opportunities, for example if you fail to get the job you were after, you may see a better one, or even decide to start your own business. All it takes is a shift in your mindset to change that failure into success.

How You Can Build Up Your Cardio

When you are doing workouts you expect to get better strengthwise over time but in cardio it is not so clear.

I think that most people getting started doing cardio run into a few of the same problems and I would like to touch on them all here.

So Lets get started…

Getting Tired Fast – Improving Cardio Workouts

As you start doing cardio whether it is a stair machine, jogging, elliptical trainer or all of the three combined you will be able to get to a decent level, let’s say an intensity level of 6 out of 10 and then after 5 minutes or so you are winded and then after 10  minutes you need to give up.

After all of this you know that you are going to have to do 20-30 minutes minimum and you will not be able to and wonder how it will happen.

Is Running Healthy

My advice to you is to get started and know that you will be doing 30 minutes so start by walking or something where you have the most control over you intensity.

Keep the intensity very low until 10 minutes are left and then go a little harder.

This will force you to go for the right length of time and if you took it to easily then you can up the intensity for the first 20 minutes next time.

I have always believed that you need to get the time in and worry about the intensity as you go along over the weeks.

Dealing With Muscle Soreness

You can expect that you will have some muscle soreness while you are working out but if you do not watch out it will become a great problem for you and you will not be getting started doing the workouts.

It is important to get out 5 or 6 times a week so you need to deal with muscle soreness right away.

During your workout you can use a few pieces of equipment unless of course you are just walking outside. What is most important is to use as many muscles groups as possible out of your Quads (biggest muscles), back, chest, arms and hamstrings.

This is the reason that elliptical trainers are so popular.

Ellipticals will force you to work a number of muscle groups at the same time so that you do not tire as easily and get sore in any one muscle group.

After your workout there are a few things that you can do to minimize muscle soreness. I like hot showers and baths.

Also if you can drink a lot of water and stretch right after it will help force that lactic acid out of your muscles, and finally if you get to sore to workout the next day you can try using a pain reliever like aspirin.

Building Intensity In Your Cardio

I said earlier that the goal is something like a 6 out of 10 for intensity but if you think forward a few months you can believe that you will be working a lot harder than you are now.

Lets say right now you can do 12 minute miles for 30 minutes. In a few months you will be fitter and able to do that same intensity and get a 8 minute mile out of it. At that time however you will be able to be even more intense so your future self will be able to run harder for 30 minutes maybe at a level of 8 out of 10.

So you need to realize that even if today you feel like you are crap in working out that in a few months, maybe as little as three months you will really feel like an athlete. I try to concentrate on seeing myself as being very strong in my future self and you should too.

The key to getting to that fantastic future self is to have workouts no matter how you feel and just change the intensity to being harder on most days and a bit easier on days you feel crappy but make sure you never miss workouts
